MAHALET TEGENU

Writer. Actress. Director.

Mahalet Tegenu (she/her) is an Ethiopian-American writer and actor based in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Dramatic Writing. Named an “up and comer” by Broadway World, Mahalet’s writing has been produced by Project Y Theatre Company and performed at the Brooklyn Comedy Collective (BCC), Caveat NYC & the Black and Funny Improv Festival. Mahalet has acted in plays at LaMama Theatre, the Ford Studio Theater, and Asylum NYC. Mahalet recently worked as a writer’s production assistant on Full Circle: a Max limited series. Mahalet is currently studying improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Additionally, she performs across NYC with her sketch comedy group: Pencils of Color!
